Q. Will you notarize documents created on LegalZoom or similar websitea?
A. No. Louisiana does not have the same law code as every other state, we are under Civil Law, whereas others are Common Law. There may be incorrect or missing verbiage in documents created online that do not hold up in Louisiana courts.
Q. Can I bring a document signed by another person to be notarized?
A. No. The parties signing the document must appear before and sign the document in the presence of the Notary after presenting a valid form of identification. Certain provisions apply for documents that are of length and require multiple notarizations.
Q. My document requires witnesses. Do I need to bring two people in with me?
A. While we strive to be able to provide witnesses throughout the workday, it is not always possible. To ensure validity of documents and to better serve the public, we ask that customers bring with them any necessary participants.
Q. Who can be a witness and is there an age limit?
A. Witnesses should be competent individuals capable of reading and understanding the transaction to which they are affixing their signature. For Notarial testaments (wills), a witness must be aged 16 and older.
